Tour of Croatia 2018 – 1st Stage, 17th April 2018

Once again, for the 4th consecutive year, Croatia is hosting an international men’s cycling stage race – Tour of Croatia. This year’s race takes place from 17th till 22nd of April. The 6 stages of the route take cyclist on a journey of over 1000 kilometres throughout Croatia. This year’s route is even more demanding than the previous years and the whole race was promoted to the 2nd HC category which means it will host teams from the most senior rankings of classification race so far.

This year’s Tour of Croatia starts in Osijek. The introductory stage, 227 kilometres long, connects the cities of Osijek and Koprivnica and is more demanding than the previous year’s ones. The route of Stage 1 is 227 km long, connecting the cities of Osijek and Koprivnica.
Besides the demanding route and the 2 challenging climbs, the cyclist had to fight heavy rain which accompanied them all the way throughout their first day. None of this stopped the Italian rider Nicolo Bonifazio of Bahrain-Merida team in his attempt to collect the victory on the opening stage of this years race., outsprinting Andrea Guardini( team Bardiani–CSF) and Eduard Grosu (team Nippo–Vini Fantini).
